If you are a citizen of a covered CARICOM country and have a Skills Certificate that Belize accepts, you can seek or take qualifying work without an ordinary work permit. Belize must recognize your skills category and verify the certificate before granting indefinite stay.

- Evidence needed
- Qualifying nationality and accepted status evidence
- Work
- No ordinary work permit once the category and certificate are accepted
Summary
Covered CARICOM citizens with a Skills Certificate accepted by Belize can seek or take employment without an ordinary work permit. The destination must recognize the category and verify the certificate. This is not unrestricted movement for every CARICOM citizen. People covered by a broader OECS or four-country movement right should compare that route before spending money on a Skills Certificate.
Belize can allow an initial six-month stay while verifying the Skills Certificate, followed by indefinite stay if accepted. The certificate removes the ordinary work-permit requirement for qualifying work, but professional licensing and business rules still apply.
-
Confirm covered citizenship and skill Match the applicant's nationality and professional category to Belize's accepted rules.
-
Verify the certificate Ask the authorities to confirm that they accept your skills category and certificate.
-
Arrange entry and verification Complete the destination process and check accompanying relatives individually.
A CARICOM passport alone is insufficient. Residence in a participating country is not the same as citizenship.
Eligibility
Citizenship and a recognized skills category
The listed countries are Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. You must be a citizen, not simply a resident. Cases involving other participation or territory arrangements need individual confirmation.
Belize’s guidance covers university graduates, artists, musicians, media and sports workers, teachers, nurses, artisans with a Caribbean Vocational Qualification, and people with an associate degree or an accepted comparable qualification. Check the evidence for your category.
An accepted Skills Certificate
A CARICOM passport alone is not enough. Belize must accept both your category and certificate. A category announced regionally may not yet be available locally.
This arrangement is for people moving to seek or take paid work. Retirement or tourism alone needs another immigration category.
Documents and local verification
Prepare your passport, Skills Certificate, and the requested identity, qualification, police, and family records. Complete Belize’s verification process even if another country issued your certificate.
What This Route Allows
You can receive six months of stay for verification, followed by indefinite stay if approved. Accepted skilled-national status allows qualifying work without an ordinary work permit. Professional licensing and business rules still apply.
What This Route Is Not
This is not unrestricted movement for every CARICOM citizen. People covered by a broader OECS or four-country movement right should compare that route before spending money on a Skills Certificate.
Next Steps
- Ask Belize’s responsible authority to confirm your category and Skills Certificate.
- Prepare the personal, qualification, and family records it requests.
- Arrange entry and complete local verification within the permitted period.
- Confirm each accompanying relative’s status separately.
