Cyprus Self-Funded Visitor Residence
At a glance
Cyprus's visitor-residence route supports a longer stay for applicants with sufficient independent means. The permitted activities remain limited by the visitor category, even when financial requirements are met.
- Support
- Financial evidence for the whole household
- Work
- No economic activity in Cyprus
- Renewal
- A new application with continuing evidence
Summary
If you want a longer stay in Cyprus and can cover your own costs, its autonomous visitor residence permit may suit you. You must keep your activities within the visitor rules and show enough reliable support for the planned stay.
The central tradeoff is work. This is permission to live in Cyprus as a visitor, with no economic activity in the Republic. Someone planning to continue a remote job should examine the separate digital-nomad category instead of assuming that a foreign employer makes the visitor permit suitable.
Eligibility
The applicant needs a genuine visitor purpose, independent resources, housing and the supporting personal and health records requested in the autonomous-visitor checklist. Citizenship and entry status determine the preliminary visa arrangements.
Spouses and minor children have their own dependent-visitor categories. Their relationship records and financial needs form part of the household’s application; the main applicant’s approval does not automatically issue their permits.
-
Visitor purpose Check that the intended activities fit the autonomous-visitor category.
-
Financial and housing evidence Show independent resources, housing, and required health records.
-
Separate family files Use the relevant dependent-visitor checklist for a spouse or minor child.
The main applicant's approval does not automatically issue family permits.
What This Route Allows
The first ordinary visitor permit is issued for one year. Renewal is possible through a further application supported by continuing eligibility. It provides a lawful longer stay in the Republic of Cyprus for the approved visitor purpose.
What This Route Is Not
This is not permanent residence, a property-purchase program, or permission to work. It also does not grant residence in other EU countries. Buying a home can help establish housing, but it does not replace the visitor application or its financial assessment.
Next Steps
- Obtain the current autonomous-visitor and any dependent-family checklists.
- Prepare accepted financial evidence, housing and health records, and certified translations.
- Arrange submission and biometric registration before relying on residence beyond the existing legal stay.
