Algeria Work Residence
At a glance
If an Algerian employer offers you a job and can arrange the required approvals, you may be able to live and work in Algeria. You need permission for the job as well as the right entry visa and residence card. A job offer alone does not allow you to start work.
- Job offer required?
- Yes, with an employer able to arrange the required approvals
- Residence deadline
- Apply 15 days before the entry visa expires
- Residence period
- Normally two years; may match the work authorization
Summary
Algeria’s employee route allows an overseas worker to move there for an approved job. Entry permission relies on temporary work approval, the contract, and the employer’s commitment to arrange return travel when employment ends. Residence then requires the appropriate ongoing work document. A new job must be checked against those permissions rather than assumed to be covered.
Eligibility
For the work entry visa, the employer must help provide temporary work authorization, an employment contract, and a written commitment to arrange your return travel when the employment ends.
The residence application needs the appropriate work document for your continuing employment. It also includes your birth record, valid passport, photographs, medical certificate, housing lease, application form, and the applicable fee.
The Interior Ministry says to apply for the residence card 15 days before your visa expires. Confirm the appointment and document arrangements early enough to meet that deadline.
-
Arrange the job documents with the employer Prepare labor approval, the contract, and the return-travel commitment.
-
Obtain the required entry visa Confirm the documents needed for the later residence application.
-
Apply for residence and keep work permission valid Apply 15 days before visa expiry and check both sets of conditions.
Do not start work until all required approvals are in place.
What This Route Allows
Once the required approvals are in place, you can live in Algeria and do the job they cover. The residence card normally lasts two years, but it may be issued for the same period as the work authorization. Check both expiry dates and keep the work permission current.
What This Route Is Not
An entry visa is not a substitute for the approvals needed to work and remain in Algeria. If you change jobs, you must obtain the appropriate permission rather than assume the existing documents cover the new role.
Family members need their own immigration status. This route does not guarantee permanent residence or citizenship.
Next Steps
- Have the employer arrange the contract, labor approval, and written return-travel commitment.
- Apply for the work entry visa with the required documents.
- Prepare the residence-card application and apply 15 days before visa expiry.
- Confirm that all required permissions are in place before starting work, and track their expiry dates separately.
