Summary
A qualifying close relative of an Ecuadorian citizen or foreign permanent resident may be able to apply directly for permanent residence. You need to prove both the relationship and your relative’s citizenship or permanent status; you do not first need to complete the ordinary temporary-residence period.
Eligibility
The category covers specified close relatives by blood or marriage, described in the law as relatives within the second degree. Blood relatives include parents, children, siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren. Ask the authority to confirm whether a relationship through marriage fits the legal definition. The separate citizen-spouse route also remains available.
Provide official records for every link. A sibling or grandparent application needs the records connecting the family members, along with proof of the relative’s citizenship or permanent residence. A temporary resident cannot support this permanent family category.
You also need proof of lawful financial support, a passport with at least six months remaining, and the required background records. Foreign family and background documents need authentication and translations as required. Children need the relevant parental authorization and records showing who can act for them.
-
Confirm your relative’s status Document Ecuadorian citizenship or permanent residence.
-

-

A relationship through marriage needs confirmation against the legal definition.
What This Route Allows
If approved, you receive permanent residence through your family relationship. You must continue to follow the rules for keeping permanent status.
What This Route Is Not
This is not citizenship through ancestry or residence through any distant relative. It does not use the same sponsorship basis as a foreign temporary resident’s family.
Next Steps
- Confirm that your relationship fits this category and your relative is Ecuadorian or a permanent resident.
- Gather birth, marriage, and other records linking every family member involved.
- Prepare your passport, financial-support and background records, and any child-specific documents.
- Confirm authentication and translation requirements and submit the application through the official process.
