Egypt Investment Citizenship
At a glance
You can apply for Egyptian citizenship by making a government contribution, buying qualifying property, investing in a business, or making a bank deposit. The lowest financial option is a USD $250,000 contribution, plus a separate USD $10,000 application fee. You must also pass government review; making a payment does not guarantee citizenship.
- Lowest financial option
- USD $250,000 nonrefundable government contribution
- Application fee
- An additional USD $10,000, nonrefundable, for every option
- Other options
- USD $300,000 property; USD $350,000 business plus USD $100,000 contribution; or USD $500,000 deposit
Summary
Egypt offers four financial bases for a citizenship application: a nonrefundable contribution, qualifying property, a business investment with an additional contribution, or a bank deposit. Every option also carries a separate nonrefundable application fee and government checks. The applicant must follow the official overseas-transfer and documentation process.
The options have materially different commitments. Property and business investments generally have five-year retention conditions, while the three-year deposit is returned in Egyptian pounds without interest under the stated exchange-rate rule. Complete the review and confirm the conditions before committing funds; payment is not a guarantee of citizenship.
Eligibility
Choose one of the four published financial options:
- Government contribution: pay USD $250,000 to the government. This is a nonrefundable payment.
- Property: buy qualifying real estate worth at least USD $300,000.
- Business: invest USD $350,000 in a qualifying project and make a separate, nonrefundable USD $100,000 contribution. Together, these total USD $450,000.
- Bank deposit: deposit USD $500,000 for three years. The money is repaid in Egyptian pounds, without interest, using the Central Bank exchange rate on the repayment date.
Every option also requires the USD $10,000 nonrefundable application fee. Follow the official instructions for transferring money from abroad.
Property must be kept for five years from the date you buy it. The business rule covers five years from the date the project starts operating. Selling the property or giving up the business investment earlier can require a USD $250,000 contribution to keep your citizenship. Ask the Citizenship Unit to confirm the conditions before paying.
You also need the requested identity, family, criminal-record, travel, and medical documents. Ask which family members need separate steps and whether you can keep your current citizenship.

-

-

Keep the different payment, holding, and repayment conditions in mind when comparing the four options.
What This Route Allows
Citizenship is granted only after final approval. The government first reviews your application. If you receive initial approval, you get a temporary residence period to complete the chosen financial option. You then need the separate final citizenship decision.
What This Route Is Not
This is not a guaranteed purchase of citizenship. It is also different from the residence route for people who own property in Egypt.
The government contribution is a payment, not money you get back after a set period. The application fee is also nonrefundable. The official contribution and property options allow installment payments over up to one year, with a separate refund rule if you cannot complete the payments or withdraw the application. In that situation, the money paid is returned in Egyptian pounds, without interest. The Central Bank rate on the repayment date applies, but it cannot exceed the rate on the original payment date. Confirm how this rule applies to your payment arrangement before paying.
The bank deposit has its own repayment rules. Because it is returned in Egyptian pounds without interest, exchange-rate changes can affect what you receive in your own currency.
A published estimate for the initial review is not a promise of the total processing time or approval for your family.
Next Steps
- Compare all four options, including the separate fee, how long your money must remain invested, and any exchange-rate risk.
- Confirm the document checklist, payment conditions, and transfer instructions with the Citizenship Unit before paying.
- Submit the application and fee for review, then follow the conditions of any initial approval.
- Complete the approved financial option and wait for the final citizenship decision.
