Egypt Work Residence

Egypt Residency
Pathway overview

At a glance

A job with an employer in Egypt may let you apply to live and work there. You need both the required work permit and permission to enter and stay for work. Your employer must be able to support the applications and meet the rules for hiring foreign workers.

Job offer required?
Yes, with an employer able to support the required approvals
Hiring rules
Check occupation limits, hiring limits, and nationality-related requirements
Work permission
The required work permit under Labor Law 14 of 2025

Summary

A supported job can allow a foreign employee to live and work in Egypt, with both work authorization under Labor Law 14 of 2025 and immigration permission required. The employer must check occupation and hiring limits, including nationality-related treatment rules or an applicable exception.

Those checks should happen before work begins, since an offer or entry visa is not sufficient permission. Job changes need the appropriate approval, and accompanying relatives require their own status. The employment route does not itself guarantee a later permanent status.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

Egypt’s Labor Law 14 of 2025 requires the appropriate work and immigration permissions. Ask the employer to check whether your occupation is open to foreign workers, whether hiring limits apply, and which documents are needed under the current process.

The employer must also check the rule on comparable treatment of Egyptian workers in your country, or whether an exception applies. This means your nationality can affect the requirements; a job offer alone does not settle them.

Preparing to live and work in Egypt
  1. Confirm the job and the employer’s ability to hire you Check the rules that apply to the role and your nationality.
  2. Apply for work and immigration permission Prepare the required work permit and matching entry and residence records.
  3. Start only after the required approvals Follow the job conditions and track each permission’s expiry date.

A job offer or entry visa alone is not permission to begin working.

What This Route Allows

Once the required approvals are in place, you can live in Egypt and work in the job they cover, for the periods they allow. The work permit and residence permission can have separate expiry dates, so keep track of both.

What This Route Is Not

An offer or entry visa alone does not authorize you to start work. Changing jobs requires the appropriate approval. Family members need their own immigration status, and this route does not guarantee permanent residence or citizenship.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm the position and that the employer can obtain the necessary permission to hire you.
  2. Check occupation, hiring, and nationality requirements with the employer before relying on the offer for a move.
  3. Prepare the work-permit application and the matching entry and residence applications.
  4. Obtain the required approvals before starting work, and check their conditions and separate renewal dates.
