Honduras Residence through Relatives
At a glance
If you are the foreign parent, grandparent, or sibling of someone who is Honduran by birth, you can apply for family residence. Official records must prove both the relationship and your relative’s citizenship by birth. A relative who became Honduran only through naturalization does not qualify for this particular category.
- Who can apply
- Parents, grandparents, and siblings of Hondurans by birth
- Family records
- The Honduran relative’s birth and identity records, plus records connecting every generation of the relationship
- Application
- File through the required representative with identity, health, background, and family records
Summary
Foreign parents, grandparents, and siblings of Honduran citizens by birth can apply for family residence. The application must prove both the relationship and the Honduran relative’s citizenship by birth. This branch does not cover every relative of every Honduran citizen. A spouse or recognized partner uses the separate relationship provision; a child should first have any citizenship-by-descent claim checked.
Eligibility
The right relationship and citizenship
This category covers you as the parent, grandparent, or sibling of a Honduran citizen by birth. Spouses and recognized partners use a separate provision. A citizen’s child should first check whether they qualify for citizenship.
Records connecting the family
Provide the Honduran relative’s birth and identity records, together with every birth or other civil record needed to connect you. For a grandparent relationship, this includes the intermediate generation.
General residence documents
Prepare the records required by Article 22, including identity, immigration, background, health, and representative documents as applicable.
-
Confirm the covered relationship This route covers a citizen's foreign parent, grandparent, or sibling.
-
Establish citizenship by birth Obtain the Honduran relative's birth and identity records.
-
Connect the full family chain Prepare all intermediate civil records and the general residence file.
Citizenship obtained only through naturalization does not fit this provision. A citizen's child may instead need a citizenship-status review.
What This Route Allows
An accepted family connection can support residence without using the investor, pensioner, or ordinary employment category.
What This Route Is Not
This branch does not cover every relative of every Honduran citizen. A spouse or recognized partner uses the separate relationship provision; a child should first have any citizenship-by-descent claim checked.
Next Steps
- Confirm that your relative is Honduran by birth.
- Gather the official records connecting you as their parent, grandparent, or sibling.
- Prepare the general residence documents through the required representative.
- Apply after the citizenship and family links are documented.
