Jordan Residency
Pathway overview

At a glance

Jordan offers annual residence without work through a deposit of at least JOD 20,000 in a local bank, or JOD 10,000 plus an apartment registered in your name. You need approval and must confirm how long the deposit must stay in place.

Summary

You may be able to live in Jordan without working by keeping at least JOD 20,000 in a Jordanian bank. If you also own an apartment registered in your name, the deposit can be at least JOD 10,000. The standard residence permit is annual, and approval is required.

Eligibility

There are two financial options:

You need a bank certificate and, if using the apartment option, the ownership record. Identity, entry, and any previous-residence records are also required.

Before transferring money or traveling, ask the Ministry of Interior how to apply from your location, how long you must keep the deposit, and what evidence renewal will require.

The service covers applicants and family members, but confirm the documents and approval for each person. A five-year permit needs separate approval from the Borders and Residence Department; meeting the annual permit's deposit requirement does not automatically qualify you for it.

Applying for residence through a bank deposit
  1. Check entry and application steps Ask the Ministry of Interior how to apply from your location.
  2. Prepare the financial records Choose the deposit-only or deposit-and-apartment option and get the required evidence.
  3. Apply for residence Submit your application and any separate family records.
  4. Keep meeting the requirements Confirm the deposit rules, renewal requirements, and work restrictions.

The normal permit is annual and does not allow work. A longer permit needs separate approval.

What This Route Allows

If approved, you can live in Jordan for the period granted, normally one year, without permission to work. You need enough financial support to live without work that this permit does not allow.

What This Route Is Not

This is not citizenship by investment, automatic permanent residence, or a work permit. The deposit is not a government donation, but you should not assume you can withdraw it while using it to qualify for residence. Work for an overseas employer or client is not automatically allowed either.

Next Steps

  1. Ask the Ministry of Interior which entry and residence steps apply to you.
  2. Choose the deposit-only or deposit-and-apartment option and get the bank and ownership records.
  3. Apply for residence and provide separate family records where required.
  4. Keep meeting the financial requirements, prepare for renewal, and confirm work restrictions before changing your activities.
