Summary

Eligible CARICOM citizens can work in Saint Kitts and Nevis without an ordinary work permit through the skilled-national arrangement, using a Skills Certificate in an accepted category. Local verification must be completed before relying on this permission. A CARICOM passport or a category announced elsewhere in the region is not sufficient by itself.

Use the local application and verification process before relying on indefinite stay. This is an employment arrangement, not a retirement or tourism category. People who have a broader OECS movement right should assess that distinct basis before paying for a skills-certificate application.

Verify the destination's category before relying on the certificate
  1. Check covered citizenship and skill Match the applicant to Saint Kitts and Nevis's accepted categories.
  2. Confirm your certificate is accepted Ask the responsible authority to verify the Skills Certificate and supporting qualification.
  3. Complete entry and verification Arrange the move and assess accompanying relatives individually.

Residence in a participating country is not citizenship. The destination must accept both the category and the certificate.

Eligibility

Citizenship and skills requirements

This guide covers citizens of Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It does not treat residence in one of those countries as citizenship. Partial-participant or territory-status cases outside this list need an individual review.

The Ministry lists university graduates, artists, musicians, sports persons, CVQ-qualified artisans, nurses, teachers, media workers, associate-degree or comparable qualifications, and household domestic workers with an accepted vocational qualification. The category and certificate must be recognized locally.

An accepted CARICOM Skills Certificate

A CARICOM passport alone is insufficient. The destination must recognize both your category and your certificate; do not assume every category announced regionally has been implemented locally.

Moving to Saint Kitts and Nevis for paid work

This is the skilled-national employment arrangement. A move solely for retirement or tourism needs a different immigration category.

Documents for your application

Provide the qualifying passport, Skills Certificate, and the identity, qualification, police, and family records requested for destination verification. Complete the local verification process rather than relying only on a certificate issued elsewhere.

What This Route Allows

Admission is normally for six months while the certificate is obtained or verified locally. After approval, take the passport to Immigration for the indefinite-stay endorsement. Accepted skilled-national status permits qualifying work without an ordinary work permit. Professional licensing and business obligations still apply.

What This Route Is Not

This is not unrestricted movement for every CARICOM citizen. People covered by a broader OECS or four-country movement right should compare that route before spending money on a Skills Certificate.

Next Steps

Ask the destination’s responsible authority to confirm the category and certificate, then arrange entry and verification. Confirm the status of accompanying relatives individually.
