Laos Technical Worker Residence
At a glance
An eligible Lao employer can help you obtain work and temporary residence permission for a technical job. The employer needs foreign-labor approval, and the documents must match your actual role.
- Job offer required?
- Yes, for a technical role with an eligible employer
- Employer approval
- Company records, foreign-labor quota, and permission to bring you in
- Job details
- The work and immigration applications must describe the job you will actually do
Summary
Laos’s technical-worker route lets a foreign employee stay for an approved technical job. The employer needs the foreign-staff quota and approval required to recruit that worker. The employee then needs the correct visa, work approval, and stay-permit documents. Permission to leave and return is a further check; an invitation alone does not cover continued employment.
Eligibility
You need a technical role with an employer that has the required company and operating records, a foreign-labor quota, and approval to bring you in. The quota controls how many foreign staff it may hire.
The job described in the work and immigration applications must match what you will actually do. A company director who does not qualify as an investor still needs the appropriate labor approval.
-
Confirm the employer and job Check the LA-B2 category and the company’s foreign-labor approvals.
-
Prepare the work and entry applications Make sure the contract and supporting records describe the actual role.
-
Arrange your stay-permit card Complete the residence and travel steps after approval and renew on time.
Entry, work, residence, and repeat travel need the appropriate documents.
What This Route Allows
The approved documents let you do the authorized job and stay temporarily for the approved period.
Multiple-entry permission allows travel in and out when granted. It does not replace the stay-permit card you need to live in Laos.
What This Route Is Not
A business invitation or an entry stamp alone does not let you keep working in Laos. This employee route is separate from the NI-B2 investor category and does not guarantee permanent residence.
Next Steps
- Ask your employer to confirm that LA-B2 fits the job and that it has the required labor approvals.
- Prepare the company records, contract, passport, and work-permit documents.
- Complete the entry, stay-permit, and any multiple-entry steps through the designated authority. Track and renew each document separately.
