Montenegro Digital Nomad Residence

Montenegro Residency
Pathway overview

At a glance

Montenegro's digital-nomad route lets you live there while working online for a business registered abroad. It can be your own company. You need documents showing the foreign business and your work for it.

Purpose
Remote work for a foreign employer or business
Income or support
Documented means of support sufficient for the stay, with evidence of the qualifying foreign work.
Evidence
Work records, support, housing, and health coverage

Summary

Montenegro's digital-nomad permission lets eligible remote workers live there while working electronically for a foreign-registered company, including their own company abroad. The application must establish that relationship and sufficient means for the stay, with the usual housing and health evidence.

A spouse and minor children can seek family reunification, but the permission is time-limited. After the maximum four-year period, a new digital-nomad permission requires a six-month break. Moving into local employment would require a different immigration assessment.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

The applicant must work electronically for a company outside Montenegro, or for their own company outside Montenegro. A company registered in Montenegro does not satisfy this foreign-company basis.

The applicant must document enough money to support yourself for the stay and provide evidence of the qualifying foreign work.

More about this route

This can suit someone whose income-producing activity will remain overseas while their home is temporarily in Montenegro. It also provides a family-reunification option for a spouse and minor children. The permission has a maximum period, however, so it is better understood as a defined remote-work stay than as an unlimited residence arrangement.

Document the business abroad
  1. Foreign company Work for a company registered abroad, including your own qualifying company.
  2. Electronic work Show the actual relationship and work performed remotely.
  3. Supported residence Prepare sufficient financial support, health coverage, and the remaining residence records.

A Montenegro-registered company does not satisfy this foreign-company basis.

What This Route Allows

The permit allows the holder to live in Montenegro and carry out the approved remote work for the foreign employer or business. It can be granted for up to two years and extended for up to another two years.

A spouse and minor children can apply for family reunification. Their applications need to be arranged alongside the remote worker’s status rather than treated as automatic additions to the main permit.

What This Route Is Not

The digital-nomad category does not authorize an ordinary local job, and a company registered in Montenegro does not satisfy its foreign-company requirement. A change from foreign remote work to local employment would therefore raise a different immigration question.

After the maximum four-year period, a new digital-nomad permission requires a six-month break. That interruption matters for anyone considering this route as a continuing home for a household.

Next Steps

The applicant’s contract or company records should establish the foreign business and the work performed electronically. Evidence of sufficient support, health coverage, and the other residence requirements then completes the practical picture of the stay.

The official checklist should be used to confirm the application documents and any family applications. A remote-friendly job title alone does not explain who the applicant works for or whether the foreign-company requirement is met.
