Macao Worker Family Stay Permit
At a glance
You may be able to join an eligible specialist worker in Macao. Their employment approval must allow family sponsorship; a worker card alone is not enough, and each relative needs an application.

- A specialist worker approved to sponsor family
- Family covered
- Only the relationships accepted under the police’s family-stay rules
- Documents
- Relationship, worker’s consent, immigration status, income, and address
Summary
Some family members can join a specialist worker who has permission to work in Macao as a nonresident. The worker must meet additional family-sponsorship rules; having a worker card alone is not enough.
Each relative applies for Special Authorization to Stay. This allows an approved family stay, without giving Macao resident status or automatic permission to work.
Eligibility
The worker you join
The police must accept that the worker has the required specialist qualifications and that their work benefits Macao. Confirm that their particular employment approval allows family sponsorship before preparing a family move.
The family relationship
The official list includes a spouse, a legally recognized unmarried partner, parents of the worker or spouse, minor children and adopted minors, and certain other supported minors or blood relatives. Check the exact category and required evidence; a family connection alone is not enough.
An unmarried partnership needs the prescribed proof, including evidence of the required period of living together. A child’s application may need the other parent’s consent.
Documents
Prepare the worker’s consent, worker card or preliminary approval, relationship records, address, and recent income evidence. Each applicant must meet the requirements for their own relationship category.
-
Check the worker can sponsor you The specialist-worker and family-sponsorship rules must be met.
-
Prove the relationship Use the required family records, including partner or parental-consent evidence where needed.
-
Apply for your own stay Provide the worker’s consent, status, income, and address records.
Family sponsorship is not available to every nonresident worker. Each relative needs their own permission.
What This Route Allows
Approval lets you stay with the worker for the period granted, normally linked to their own permission. It does not itself let you take a job.
Before renewal, check how changes in the worker’s status or a child’s age affect eligibility.
What This Route Is Not
This is not Macao resident status or an automatic path to permanent residence. Family rules for Macao residents cannot simply be applied to nonresident workers.
A visit is different from permission to live together. One relative’s approval does not cover the whole family.
Next Steps
- Ask the police to confirm that the worker’s approval allows family sponsorship and that your relationship is covered.
- Collect relationship records, the worker’s consent and immigration documents, and the required income and address evidence.
- Check translations, certification, entry, and local registration requirements before applying.
- Read your own authorization for its dates and conditions; arrange any required work approval separately.
