Summary
Oman’s family residence route lets eligible relatives join a qualifying resident; the Gov.om service updated in May 2026 asks for the sponsor’s passport and residence, family records, and an employer responsibility letter. An older Royal Oman Police page additionally describes occupation, housing, and salary conditions. The newer checklist does not establish that those conditions were abolished, so obtain confirmation for the sponsor’s category.
Eligibility
The service covers a spouse and children under 21 joining a qualifying foreign resident, property owner, or investor. The person sponsoring you needs valid residence and the required family evidence and responsibility letter.
The Gov.om checklist updated in May 2026 lists the sponsor's passport and residence, family documents, and an employer responsibility letter. An older Royal Oman Police page also lists occupation, housing, and salary requirements. Their absence from the newer checklist does not mean they were removed. Ask Royal Oman Police which apply to your sponsor.
Marriage and birth certificates may need official authentication and translation. Confirm whether each family member needs a separate application. Older children must check that they still meet the age rules.
-

Confirm the sponsor's requirements with Royal Oman Police. Family residence does not automatically allow work.
What This Route Allows
If approved, you can live in Oman for the period shown on your family residence permit. Renewal normally depends on the family relationship and the sponsor keeping their qualifying residence. Check each family member's expiry date separately.
What This Route Is Not
Family residence is different from a family visit visa. It does not give citizenship, independent permanent residence, or automatic permission to work. Check the required work approval before taking a job. If your sponsor's circumstances change, ask how that affects your residence.
Next Steps
- Confirm that your relationship and age meet the rules and that your family member can sponsor you.
- Ask Royal Oman Police to confirm the employment, salary, and housing requirements for the sponsor.
- Gather the family records and have the sponsor or employer submit through the correct service.
- Complete the entry and residence steps. Track renewal dates and arrange any separate work permission before accepting a job.
