Pitcairn Permanent Residence
At a glance
People who have lawfully lived on Pitcairn for more than two years can seek permanent residence, subject to absence and public-interest requirements.
- Prior residence
- More than two years lawfully on Pitcairn
- Absences
- No more than four months in the preceding two years, unless waived
- Other requirements
- Intention to settle permanently, health and character checks, and a favorable public-interest decision
Summary
People already living lawfully on Pitcairn can apply for permanent residence after more than two years if they intend to remain and meet the other conditions. The preceding two-year absence limit must also be met unless waived, alongside health, character and the public-interest assessment.
Eligible settlement-visa holders can begin the process after more than eighteen months, but cannot receive a grant before the full residence requirement is met. Visits or a seasonal visa alone do not prove that history. The resulting status is separate from British citizenship.
Eligibility
Intend to live permanently on Pitcairn, establish more than two years of lawful residence, and satisfy the preceding two-year absence limit or a waiver. Health, character, and a public-interest decision remain necessary.

What This Route Allows
Indefinite residence and work in Pitcairn once permanent residence is granted.
What This Route Is Not
Two years of visits or holding a seasonal visa is not proof that the residence requirements are met. This route does not confer British citizenship. Eligible settlement visa holders may begin the process after more than 18 months, but a grant still requires more than two years of lawful residence.
