A foreign worker’s spouse or qualifying dependent child may apply to join them in Thailand. The worker needs an eligible status, and a stay beyond the initial admission requires separate extension approval.

Summary

If your spouse or parent is a foreign worker in Thailand, you may be able to join them with family-based Non-Immigrant O permission. Their immigration status must allow them to support your application.

The initial stay is generally up to 90 days. A longer stay needs a separate extension approval in Thailand.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

You need a recognized spouse or qualifying child relationship and a worker whose status supports the family application.

For the usual child extension, the child must be unmarried, live in the family household, and meet the age rule in section 2.20. The published English criteria say “not over 20.” Illness or disability exceptions need separate evidence. Confirm the precise rule for your child with the responsible authority.

Prepare the required employer, worker passport, employment, financial, and authenticated family records.

Joining a foreign worker in Thailand
  1. Confirm the worker’s status and relationship Check the exact child age rule and any documented exception.
  2. Apply with work and family records Follow the responsible Thai mission’s checklist.
  3. Seek a longer family stay if needed Apply before expiry using the worker’s continuing status.

The initial visa and any longer extension are separate decisions.

What This Route Allows

The initial Non-Immigrant O admission generally permits a stay of up to 90 days. You can seek a longer family extension using the worker’s continuing status and the required family evidence.

What This Route Is Not

This differs from the route for a Thai citizen’s spouse. It does not automatically authorize a local job or guarantee a one-year extension.

If the worker’s permission ends, the family must address its own status too. Permanent residence has separate requirements.

Next Steps

  1. Confirm the worker’s status and the exact spouse or child eligibility rule.
  2. Prepare the documents required by the Thai mission handling the application.
  3. After entry, apply for the appropriate family extension before your initial stay expires. Check work permission separately.
