Summary
A Ukrainian citizen's qualifying spouse, parent, or child can apply to settle permanently in Ukraine, through immigration approval followed by a residence document. Parents and children rely on their respective relationship provisions; the ordinary spouse ground requires more than two years of marriage.
The authorities verify civil records and personal requirements, and may interview spouses about the marriage. Any wartime exception must fit a specific provision. An application does not extend an existing stay by itself, so applicants must maintain the permission they need while it is considered.
-
Identify the qualifying relationship Use the spouse, parent, or child ground; the ordinary spouse basis requires more than two years of marriage.
-
Prepare the immigration application Document the relationship, Ukrainian citizenship, and required personal evidence.
-
Obtain the residence document If approved Complete the current entry and filing procedure after immigration approval.
The relationship supports an application. A marriage certificate or a relative's Ukrainian passport does not itself grant permanent residence.
Eligibility
The ordinary spouse basis requires more than two years of marriage to the Ukrainian citizen. Parents and children rely on the corresponding relationship provision. More distant relatives fall under different categories and are not included in this screening.
The immigration authority verifies the relationship and the applicable personal requirements. Spouse cases may involve interviews or other checks of the marriage. Wartime exceptions are specific legal provisions, not a blanket waiver of evidence.
More about this route
The relationship still has to be established through the immigration process. A marriage certificate or a child’s Ukrainian passport is supporting evidence, rather than an automatic permanent-residence grant.
What This Route Allows
Approval of the immigration permit supports issuance of the permanent-residence document. The biometric card normally has a ten-year validity and must be exchanged as required. The applicant remains a foreign national unless a separate citizenship process is completed.
What This Route Is Not
This is not immediate permanent residence for every newly married couple or citizenship through a family member. Temporary spouse residence is a different route, and a pending immigration application should not be treated as permission to ignore the expiry of an existing stay.
Next Steps
- Identify the spouse, parent or child ground and confirm any required relationship duration.
- Prepare civil, citizenship and personal records for the immigration application.
- After approval, obtain the permanent-residence document through the current entry and filing procedure.
