Ukraine Work Residence Permit

Ukraine Residency
Pathway overview

At a glance

To move to Ukraine for an ordinary local job, your employer first obtains permission to hire you. You then use that approval to apply for temporary residence. The employer's work approval and your permission to live in Ukraine are separate documents.

Employer
Work authorization or documented exemption
Entry
D visa unless an applicable exception applies
Documents
Identity, translation, insurance and employment evidence

Summary

A qualifying local job can support a foreign employee's temporary residence in Ukraine once the employer has work authorization or a documented exemption. The applicant then needs the appropriate entry basis and personal, insurance, and translation records; the ordinary residence term follows the authorized work period.

Check the intended migration office and entry arrangements before filing or traveling. Wartime conditions can affect access to documents and services, including suspension of in-person services during air alerts. A job offer or visa-free visit cannot replace the required work and residence steps.

Employer authorization supports the worker's temporary residence
  1. Establish the work permit or exemption The employer confirms the legal basis for the actual employment.
  2. Confirm the current filing arrangements Check lawful status, entry procedures, and availability of the responsible office.
  3. Apply with aligned employment and residence records Prepare personal, insurance, and translation evidence and keep changes updated.

A job offer alone is insufficient. Wartime office interruptions can affect filing access, and the ordinary residence period follows the authorized work period.

Could this pathway work for you?

Eligibility

The work arrangement must fit a legal employment basis. The employer’s authorization or the documented exemption is central; a job offer without those steps does not establish permission to work or reside.

Applicants need lawful status for filing and the required personal, insurance and translation documents. The current Ukrainian-language guidance ties an ordinary worker’s residence period to the period of work authorized in the employment permit.

More about this route

Wartime conditions can affect access to offices and documents. The State Migration Service suspends in-person administrative services during air alerts; the intended office and current entry arrangements need to be checked before travel or filing.

What This Route Allows

The residence permit allows the approved stay while the qualifying work basis remains in place. Work itself must remain within the relevant authorization. An extension or replacement card requires a further timely application with updated evidence.

What This Route Is Not

This is not a general job-search visa or permission to work remotely for any foreign employer. A visa-free visit does not replace a D visa where one is required for residence. The route also does not guarantee uninterrupted access to services or a fixed processing date during wartime.

Next Steps

  1. Have the employer establish the correct work permit or exemption.
  2. Confirm the current consular and local residence-filing process.
  3. Submit the residence documents in time and keep the employer and permit records aligned when circumstances change.
