Adult Dutch and U.S. citizens may qualify for Curaçao's admission-by-law declaration, commonly called a Declaration van Rechtswege. Nationality gives access to this procedure, but applicants must still establish the required facts and obtain the relevant documentation.

Eligibility

This guide covers adults applying on the basis of employment, self-employment, retirement, or living from assets. You need documented housing, adequate financial support for yourself and your household, and the required good-conduct evidence.

The supporting records depend on the purpose. Employment uses a contract or employer statement; a business application needs financial and applicable business records; retirees and people living from assets use pension, bank, or investment evidence.

The Immigration Organization explains that qualifying U.S. citizens receive equivalent treatment to Dutch citizens for admission. Other EU citizenship alone does not qualify someone for this declaration.

Some people already fall outside the admission law and instead need a declaration of non-applicability. Students and dependent relatives also have distinct procedures; this guide does not assess those cases.

The declaration documents qualifying admission for the supported purpose. Confirm the conditions and any related registration requirements before moving or starting work. Business and professional licenses remain separate requirements where applicable.

What This Route Is Not

A U.S. or Dutch passport alone is not a completed residence application. This route does not grant Dutch citizenship or residence rights in the European Netherlands.

It is also separate from the ordinary retirement or independent-income permit for other foreign nationals and from any retirement tax concession.
