Algeria Business Residence
At a glance
If you plan to run a business or work in a profession in Algeria, you may be able to apply for a foreign-resident card. You must show that the activity is allowed and that you have the approvals needed for your role. Setting up a company alone does not give you permission to live or work there.
- Accepted activity
- An approved commercial, industrial, craft, or professional activity open to your role and foreign ownership
- Business records
- Evidence of the activity and any required registrations or licenses
- Professional card
- A separate foreign-trader professional card applies to listed business and professional categories
Summary
Algeria’s business residence application is for people who will carry out a documented business or professional activity in the country. Listed activities also require the foreign trader professional card. The application is not a general investment-for-residence offer with a fixed price, and company registration alone does not complete it.
Eligibility
The residence application needs accepted evidence of a commercial, industrial, craft, or professional activity. Check whether your business sector and your own role are open to foreign applicants, and which registrations or licenses are required.
A separate foreign trader professional card applies to the business and professional categories listed by the Interior Ministry. Its application asks for a residence card or a receipt showing that you have applied for one. Ask the wilaya, the provincial administration, how to put the residence and professional-card applications in the correct order.
-
Check the business and your role Confirm which activities are allowed and which registrations you need.
-
Coordinate the two card applications Ask the provincial administration about the residence card and professional card.
-
Keep the approved permissions current Follow the conditions and renew each document before it expires.
Business registration, permission to carry out the activity, and residence approval are separate requirements.
What This Route Allows
An approved residence card lets you live in Algeria for the business or professional activity accepted in your application. Residence is normally granted for two years, but its length can depend on the document supporting your stay.
The professional card is a separate document, valid for two years and renewable. Keep both your residence permission and the approvals for your business current.
What This Route Is Not
This is not a visa you obtain simply by investing a set amount, buying property, or registering a company. You still need approval for the actual activity and your residence. It does not grant Algerian citizenship.
Next Steps
- Check whether your business sector and role are allowed and identify the required registrations.
- Ask the wilaya how to coordinate entry permission, business registration, the residence application, and the professional card.
- Gather the evidence of your activity and complete the applications in the confirmed order.
- Check the expiry date of each document and renew the residence and business permissions on time.
