Egypt Business Investor Residence
At a glance
If you are a qualifying founder, shareholder, partner, or business owner in Egypt, you can apply for investor residence through the investment agency, GAFI, and the immigration authorities. Approval depends on your role and the business project. Registering a company alone does not guarantee permission to live in Egypt.
- Who can apply
- Qualifying founders, shareholders, partners, or business owners
- Business evidence
- Company records and evidence that the project is being carried out
- Renewal
- Depends on project progress; later renewals can be up to five years, within the project’s term
Summary
Foreign business owners can seek Egyptian investor residence to develop and run a qualifying project, with approval depending on their role and the project's progress. GAFI, the investment agency, and the immigration authorities need company and investment records showing that the planned activity is actually being carried out.
The initial company-formation stage can support one year, while later renewals depend on project progress and its remaining term. A registration certificate alone does not guarantee a permit or a five-year first grant. This process is distinct from property, deposit and citizenship investment routes.
Eligibility
GAFI and the Interior Ministry must accept your ownership role and project under their rules. Ask what evidence they need of the company, your investment, and the steps taken to get the business operating.
The rules connect residence and renewal to progress on the project. You need more than company-registration papers: the authorities will also consider whether the planned business is being carried out.
-
Confirm your role and project with GAFI Ask which ownership and business requirements apply.
-
Prepare company and project-progress records Show your investment and the steps taken to put the business into operation.
-
Apply for residence and keep the business records current Renewal depends on the project and your continuing role.
The first approval is not a promised five-year stay; later renewals depend on the project.
What This Route Allows
The regulations provide for one year of residence when the company is formed. A further similar period may be granted if the project shows serious progress. Later renewals can be for up to five years, but cannot extend beyond the project’s term.
Check the period actually approved in your case and the evidence needed for renewal. Leaving the company or closing the business can remove the reason you qualify for this residence.
What This Route Is Not
This is separate from Egypt’s citizenship-by-investment program and from residence based on a property purchase or bank deposit. It does not grant citizenship, promise five years on the first application, or give unrestricted permission to take an unrelated job.
Next Steps
- Ask GAFI to confirm that your role and proposed project fit the investor residence rules.
- Gather the requested company, investment, business-progress, and personal records.
- Complete the residence process with GAFI and the immigration authorities.
- Keep evidence of your continued role and the project’s progress, and prepare each renewal before the approved stay ends.
