Summary
A foreign spouse may apply to live with a qualifying foreign resident in Ghana through the published dependent-spouse category, which requires more than four years of marriage. The application relies on that resident's immigration status and accepted financial support, backed by marriage and identity records.
The Ghana Immigration Service also asks for guarantors and a bond, so confirm who may provide the guarantee and the obligations it creates. This checklist does not determine every other family situation or a newer marriage. Dependent residence does not itself authorize employment.
Eligibility
Show that you have been married for more than four years, that your spouse has the required immigration status, and that they can provide the accepted support. Here, a dependent spouse means a spouse whose residence application relies on the other partner’s status and support.
Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) also asks for guarantors, a financial guarantee called a bond, and your identity records. Ask who can act as a guarantor and what responsibilities the guarantee involves before preparing the application.

What This Route Allows
If approved, you can live in Ghana as your spouse’s dependent for the period granted. Check the conditions and expiry date on your own residence permission.
What This Route Is Not
Dependent residence does not itself authorize employment or grant citizenship. This guide covers the published foreign-resident spouse application; it does not decide whether children, other relatives, or people in newer marriages qualify through another family process.
