Isle of Man Worker Visa

Isle of Man Residency
Pathway overview

At a glance

To move to the Isle of Man for a qualifying job, your employer first needs a Confirmation of Employment. The employer must show that the vacancy and recruitment meet the island's rules. You then apply for permission to move there as a Worker Migrant.

Summary

The Worker Migrant route lets an eligible foreign employee live in the Isle of Man for an approved local job, beginning with the employer's Confirmation of Employment. The business must show that the vacancy, salary and search for suitable local workers meet the island's requirements. The employee then makes the immigration application with the necessary personal evidence.

This permission is distinct from a UK Skilled Worker visa even where parts of the application system overlap. June 2026 changes affect first-year employer moves and family eligibility, so the occupation category matters beyond pay. A local work-permit exemption is not itself immigration permission.

Employer confirmation precedes the worker's immigration application
  1. Employer checks the qualifying vacancy Verify the role, pay, and required recruitment process.
  2. Obtain Confirmation of Employment Check that the employer's confirmation is valid for the proposed application.
  3. Apply for the worker permission Provide personal records and separately assess any eligible family applications.

This is the Isle of Man's own route. Current role-specific rules affect family eligibility and changes of employer.

Eligibility

Applicants need a qualifying local employer and Confirmation of Employment, followed by their own visa application. The employer must document the vacancy, appropriate pay and compliance with the sequential labor-market test (a check for suitable workers already available locally). British and Irish citizens do not need this immigration route.

The worker must meet the personal and documentary requirements, including any language and maintenance rules. Family applications need a separate check of the role’s eligibility under the current Higher Skilled provisions.

More about this route

The category is separate from the UK Skilled Worker visa, even though applications use parts of the UK application system. New rules introduced in June 2026 also affect changing employers and bringing family, so the particular job category matters to more than the main applicant’s salary.

Company transfers are changing; ordinary Worker Migrant hiring is not closing

Current official stage: Statement of Changes SD 2026/0102; Global Business Mobility scheduled for November 2

From November 2, new company-transfer cases move from ICT into the separate Global Business Mobility framework. An ordinary local hire still needs the Worker Migrant requirements. Existing ICT holders keep only the settlement rights available under their existing rules.

Timing: The government schedules the new routes and sponsor-licensing policy for November 2, 2026. The closure concerns new ICT applications, not the ordinary Worker Migrant route as a whole.

What This Route Allows

Permission allows the approved work for the named employer. The published initial limit is the earlier of fourteen days after the employment end date or three years and one month. Extension is possible under the rules; it does not remove the conditions attached to the job.

What This Route Is Not

This is not permission to work for any island employer, and it does not cover self-employment. A local work-permit exemption and immigration permission are separate legal questions. Family members are not automatically eligible because the worker receives approval.

Next Steps

  1. Have the employer confirm the occupation, salary and recruitment basis.
  2. Obtain the Confirmation of Employment and check its validity before applying.
  3. Submit the worker visa and any eligible family applications, using the conditions in force for that application.
