Summary
Jersey’s long-term worker route lets an overseas recruit move to the island for a qualifying job. The employer’s permission to recruit and the worker’s immigration application are separate parts of the move. The employer must have a qualifying vacancy, satisfy the current recruitment and pay rules, and obtain a work permit. The worker then needs the visa or immigration clearance applicable to their circumstances.
-
Check the qualifying vacancy The employer reviews occupation, pay, recruitment, licensing, and housing-law requirements.
-
Obtain the employer's work permit Use the approved job as the basis for the worker's immigration file.
-
Complete the worker and family assessment Prepare the applicable visa, personal, housing, and any eligible family evidence.
Housing and employment controls remain a separate part of moving to Jersey. A job offer does not complete the immigration process.
Eligibility
The employer’s application establishes that the job can be filled under the long-term policy. It must satisfy the occupation, salary and recruitment requirements and any relevant business-license conditions.
The worker must qualify for immigration permission and meet the applicable English and personal checks. Family sponsorship is available only under the specified long-term provisions and requires separate proof of adequate maintenance and housing.
More about this route
Jersey’s housing and employment controls are another part of the move. They can matter even to British and Irish citizens who do not need this immigration route, so an employer’s ability to offer a job should be considered alongside the worker’s housing position.
What This Route Allows
Long-term work permits are normally issued for up to three years, with a longer published period for doctors. The worker’s visa conditions determine the approved stay and employment. A new job or changed circumstances may require a new application.
What This Route Is Not
This is not a UK Skilled Worker visa or unrestricted permission to take any Jersey job. Temporary and seasonal permits have different family and settlement consequences. Housing eligibility is also separate from immigration status, so a work visa does not by itself resolve where the household can rent.
Next Steps
- Have the employer check occupation, pay, recruitment and housing-law requirements.
- Obtain the work permit and prepare the visa evidence.
- Assess any family applications and housing before relying on a household relocation.
