Laos Business Investor Residence
At a glance
An investor in an approved Lao business or project may apply for a visa and temporary stay. You need evidence of the project’s approval and your own investor role.
- Approved project
- An accepted business or investment project, with its approval or concession records
- Investor role
- Company and personal records showing that you qualify as an investor; being a director alone is insufficient
Summary
Laos offers an investor residence route based on recognized investment and company records for the applicant’s approved business role. It is not a general residence program for buying personal property or holding savings.
You need records showing both the project’s approval and your role as an investor. Buying a personal property or keeping money in a bank account does not qualify on its own.
Eligibility
You must have an accepted investor role in the approved company or project. Prepare the relevant investment approval or concession, company records, and documents identifying you as the investor. A concession is government permission for a particular project or activity.
A proposal that is still awaiting approval is not the same as an approved investment. Being a company director also does not automatically make you an investor under these rules.
-
Check the project and your role Confirm the approvals and that you qualify as an investor.
-
Apply with the investment records Use the NI-B2 checklist for the company, investor, and passport documents.
-
Complete the stay and travel steps After approval, obtain the stay-permit card and any multiple-entry permission.
Investor, employee, and non-investor director applications follow different rules.
What This Route Allows
Approval supports entry and temporary residence for your investment project. After entry, you must complete the separate stay-permit card process. If you need to leave and return, also arrange the required multiple-entry permission.
Check each document’s expiry date and renewal rules.
What This Route Is Not
Company registration or property ownership alone does not give you residence. Investors follow different rules from technical employees and directors who are not investors.
A visa, stay-permit card, or multiple-entry permission does not give you permanent residence.
Next Steps
- Ask the responsible investment authority to confirm the project’s approvals and that your documented investor role qualifies.
- Gather the company, investment, identity, and passport records for the NI-B2 application.
- Complete the entry, stay-permit card, and any multiple-entry steps through the designated process. Renew each document when due.
