- Passport eligibility
- Only the listed nationalities; China and India currently included through December 31, 2026
- Current permission
- Keep the Student Pass valid throughout processing
Summary
If you completed a bachelor’s degree or higher in Malaysia, the Graduate Pass may let you stay for another 12 months. You must hold an eligible passport and keep your Student Pass valid throughout the application process.
The Graduate Pass allows only limited part-time work in permitted sectors. It is not an unrestricted full-time work visa.
Eligibility
Your studies, passport, and current pass
You need a Malaysian bachelor’s or higher qualification and a completion letter. Your Student Pass must remain valid during processing. You cannot use this process if you already have a Check-Out Memo, the student departure document, or a Social Visit Pass.
The current list covers 32 nationalities, including the US, Canada, the UK, and specified European countries. It does not cover every European passport.
China and India are currently included only through December 31, 2026, with additional good-conduct evidence. Check the current rule before applying rather than assuming this temporary inclusion will continue.
Other application requirements
Prepare:
- A passport valid for at least 18 months.
- One year of medical insurance issued locally.
- The required personal bond, a financial-guarantee form.
- A Malaysian citizen sponsor earning at least MYR 1,500 a month. Sarawak’s sponsor rules also require local residence.
- The required evidence that you meet the conduct conditions.
The MYR 1,500 threshold applies to your sponsor, not to your own earnings as a graduate.
-
Check eligibility before student status ends Confirm your degree, passport country, and continuing Student Pass validity.
-
Prepare the graduate application Gather insurance, sponsor, bond, completion, and conduct records.
-
Follow the approved stay and work limits If approved, use the 12-month period and check which part-time jobs are permitted.
The nationality list, valid Student Pass, and limited work rights are essential parts of this route.
China and India have a temporary eligibility window
China and India have a temporary eligibility window
Chinese and Indian applicants need to meet the current extended eligibility and good-conduct conditions. Do not assume an application after December 31, 2026 remains covered without a further official extension. Other eligible nationalities and the validity of an already approved pass are different questions.
Timing: The announced extension ends December 31, 2026. Recheck the nationality list and application conditions before any later application; this is not a statement that already issued passes end on that date.
What This Route Allows
Approval gives a 12-month stay and limited part-time work in the permitted sectors. Dependents who already have valid dependent permission may apply to extend it under the stated conditions.
What This Route Is Not
This does not authorize any full-time job or promise indefinite renewals. Do not let your Student Pass expire while relying on a pending application, or assume the temporary China and India rules will continue after their announced end date.
Next Steps
- Confirm your qualification, passport-country eligibility, and Student Pass validity for the whole processing period.
- Gather the completion letter, passport, insurance, eligible sponsor’s documents, bond, and any extra conduct records.
- Apply through the stated Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) process before your Student Pass expires.
- Check the precise work conditions before accepting a job and plan your next status before the Graduate Pass ends.
