Southern Africa Residence Options
What could support a move to Southern Africa?
A local job, a genuine business, an accepted course, or a qualifying family relationship can support a residence application. South Africa and Namibia also have remote-work options. South Africa offers separate retirement and financial-independence categories.
About this guide
This guide covers Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, and South Africa. Start with where you would like to live and what you would do there. Each country has its own immigration rules, even where currencies or travel routes are closely connected.
Business permission is tied to a real approved activity. Owning a home, registering a company, or holding a visitor visa does not by itself establish residence rights. The regional report explains the differences, including Namibia’s new investor permit and investment proposals whose application rules are not yet confirmed.
